Check Out Past Lessons and Fun Activities Done With Some of My Students!
Virtual Classroom
Our virtual classroom includes clickable links to interactive lessons, read alouds, educational activities, and more to keep minds active when we are not together!
The virtual classroom also includes a link to Supplemental Tutoring Activities exclusive to my students. This resource includes grade-level/subject-based printables, games, and activities (based on student needs) for kids to work on between sessions.
The Virtual Classroom and all additional resources require private links to access which are provided to each family.
Scholastic Book Club
All of my tutoring families are given the opportunity to order books at reduced costs through our Scholastic Book Club.
Links to our Book Club are provided to each family.
Every new student gets a package of educational goodies to keep like this one! I include window readers to help students track the word/line they’re reading, helpful bookmarks to encourage reading and provide a few reading strategies, wiggle eye rings to help kiddos “look at” and point to the word they’re reading, and fun, mini erasers (used as math manipulatives, game board pieces, and more!)
I am a huge believer in goal-setting because it builds self confidence, provides a focus, and motivates students! Each student gets a goal-tracker like this one. On our first day, I let them decide on an awesome reward. They earn 1 sticker per step on the chart each time they have a successful tutoring session where they work hard and give their best effort! Once the chart is finished, they get their reward and start a new chart!
Would you believe me if I said my kiddos tell me math is FUN?! Because they do! I teach a variety of math strategies catered to each child’s specific needs.
Reading can be fun, too! Teaching a variety of reading strategies helps kiddos have options in their ‘tool kits’ on how to decode unfamiliar words when reading or spelling.
Students collected and identified leaves in the fall while discussing how they change throughout the seasons. Then, they created an 'animal' picture from the leaves they collected.
I use a variety of Behavior Management Strategies to help keep my students focused and on task. Students know if they work hard, they may earn a reward at the end of a great session(s). My strategies teach self-actualization and help students become responsible for their education.
My STEAM scientists engineered their own ‘apple trapper’ inventions using only paper and tape!
Playing with the props from our 2nd-grade photo booth!
My Word Builder helps with literacy as younger elementary students practice creating words and tracing letters (My Chalkboard Clock helps with time-telling: a lost art form in our digital world!)
I believe in positive reinforcement and rewarding on-task students!
A fan favorite with the kiddos, Play Doh! It’s great for sensory activities, letter recognition, creating words…
…and math fun!
Practicing place value with Base 10 manipulatives as “ladybug spots”
I provide Spelling Dictionaries for kiddos who need spelling support. Reading, spelling, and writing go hand in hand! Whenever students ask me how to spell a word or they learn a new word, I ask them to add it to their dictionaries.
I love using manipulatives (like Popsicle sticks and mini erasers) when teaching math. The hands-on, interactive experience they provide helps solidify even the toughest concepts.
Practice reading or spelling words with personalized game boards
Uh-Oh! ‘Take Your Time Turtle’ may pass out ‘Speeding Tickets’ when kiddos rush through assignments or forget to check their work!
Retell plays a big role in Reading Comprehension
A Running Record is a great way to establish your child’s reading level. I ask them to read a passage(s) and answer comprehension questions after.
I calculate their accuracy, updated reading level, and determine their reading needs from there.
For beginning or struggling spellers, weekly spelling tests allow them to practice spelling and handwriting. I give pre-tests (prior to studying) and post-tests (after studying) to track progress and encourage growth.
The more interactive, the more engaging.
If I can turn it into a game, I will! Practice both reading and spelling with BINGO. I show them pictures and they have to find the word.
